The Crutches Across Texas Kickoff Event was held at Broadway Square Mall, Tyler, Texas, on Saturday, March 13, from 10AM to 2PM.
In response to a call for crutches by Temple Mims to Tyler, and with the help of the media to get that call heard, over a dozen people brought pairs of crutches and even a valuable prosthetic leg.
Cash donations to help with refurbishing costs were also received.
Temple was supported throughout the event by Dr. Fred Sorrells, President of the International Institute of SPORT, Janice Ernest, Publisher of While-U-Wait Magazine, Don Bristow of Lightray Websites and Temple's mother, Paula.
Special thanks to Build-A-Bear Workshop for providing discount coupons for donors, use of their printer and temporary storage and collection of crutches at their store, and to The Salvation Army for the use of a sorting bin, and to PODS for making a container available.
The story was covered by KLTV's Layron Livingston viewable at KLTV.com, and by KYTX's Anthony Austin viewable at KYTX.com.
